Warning Signs of Foundation Failure

If you notice any of the following, then you need to get in touch with our foundation repair company immediately to schedule a consultation in your home:

  • Interior and exterior cracks form on walls and along window or door frames
  • Walls are tilting or bowing into the home
  • Chimney looks like it's tilting or pulling away from the home
  • Windows and doors don't open or close like they used to
  • Cracks appear in concrete slabs on the basement floor, in the driveway, on porches or patios, and so on
  • Home appears to be noticeably sinking further into the earth on one or more sides of the foundation

Foundation Settlement

It is not unusual for homes to have this kind of structural problem, especially when there is poorly backfilled soil. Settling and eroding soil can cause voids to develop beneath the home, and the home's foundation will eventually sink into this space. This can cause sinking on one or more sides of the foundation. The problem can easily be taken care of with the use of helical and push piers. Foundation piers can quickly be installed, and they don't require much excavation. Once installed, they will be able to shift the weight of your home off of the weakened foundation and onto themselves. Eventually, this will help to keep the home stable and supported, permanently.

Bowed Basement Walls

Bowing walls are commonly seen on all types of homes, both old and new. Whenever it rains or when you have melting snow, the soil will absorb the moisture and swell up. This puts a lot of pressure on your foundation walls, known as hydrostatic pressure, and it will eventually prove to be too much. The wall(s) will start to lean into the basement. To take care of the problem, we can install wall anchors. The anchor is placed deep within the earth in stable, load-bearing strata. A plate is attached inside of the home on the damaged wall. The two are connected with a steel rod, which can be tightened over time to provide the necessary lateral pressure needed to support the wall and push it back into place.

Wall Cracks

Whenever you see cracks in your foundation walls, it may simply be caused from the natural curing process of concrete. But, sometimes, this problem could also be a warning sign that there is an underlying problem with your home's structure. Our techs will quickly be able to pinpoint the cause of the cracks, and then they will come up with an effective repair solution. The wall cracks will be filled and sealed so that they don't let seepage from the soil inside. If the cracks are being caused from settlement or bowing walls, we can also take care of the problem and prevent it from happening in the future by installing piering products and wall anchors.
