Warning Signs of Foundation Failure

Please make sure that you contact our team ASAP if you notice any of the following structural problems in your home:

  • Interior and exterior cracks can be seen on walls and along window or door frames
  • Walls are tilting or bowing into the home
  • Chimney looks like it's leaning or pulling away from the home
  • Windows and doors don't open or close like they used to
  • Cracks appear in concrete slabs on the basement floor, in the garage, on sidewalks, etc.
  • Home appears to be visibly sinking deeper and deeper on one or more sides of the foundation

Sinking Home

It is not unusual for homes to have this kind of structural problem, especially when there is poorly backfilled soil. Settling and eroding soil can cause voids to develop beneath the home, and the home's foundation will eventually sink into this space. This can cause sinking on one or more sides of the foundation. To take care of this issue, our team can install foundation piering products - helical and push. Foundation piers can quickly be installed, and they don't require much excavation. After the piers are installed, they will be able to take the weight of your home off of the weak foundation and place it on themselves. Ultimately, these piers will help to keep the home stable, level, and secure.

Bowed Walls

Bowed walls are another problem caused from the soil surrounding a home. The soil surrounding your home will expand and swell whenever it absorbs moisture after a heavy rain fall. This puts a lot of pressure on your foundation walls, known as hydrostatic pressure, and it will eventually prove to be too much. The wall(s) will start to lean into the basement. This problem can be taken care of with the use of wall anchors. The anchor is placed deep within the earth in stable, load-bearing strata. A special plate will be installed inside of the home on the effected wall. The two are connected with a steel rod, which can be tightened over time to provide the necessary lateral pressure needed to support the wall and push it back into place.

Wall Cracks

Whenever you see cracks in your foundation walls, it may simply be caused from the natural curing process of concrete. But, sometimes, this problem could also be a warning sign that there is an underlying problem with your home's structure. During a consultation with our team of experts, your home's foundation will be carefully inspected so we can figure out what's causing the issue. The wall cracks will be filled and sealed so that they don't let seepage from the soil inside. Also, if the problem is caused from settlement or a bowing wall, we can install foundation piers or wall anchors, as mentioned above.
