Warning Signs of Foundation Failure

Please make sure that you contact our team ASAP if you notice any of the following structural problems in your home:

  • Interior and exterior cracks can be seen on walls and along window or door frames
  • Walls are tilting or bowing into the home
  • Chimney appears to be tilting or pulling away from the home
  • Windows and doors become difficult to open or close
  • Cracks appear in concrete slabs on the basement floor, in the garage, on sidewalks, etc.
  • Home appears to be visibly sinking deeper and deeper on one or more sides of the foundation

Foundation Settlement

It is not unusual for homes to have this kind of structural problem, especially when there is poorly backfilled soil. Settling and eroding soil can cause voids to develop beneath the home, and the home's foundation will eventually sink into this space. This can make it look like one or more sides of the home are settling deeper into the earth. The problem can easily be taken care of with the use of helical and push piers. We install foundation repair products which have proven time and time again to be effective at taking care of all types of settlement problems. Once installed, they will be able to shift the weight of your home off of the weakened foundation and onto themselves. Eventually, this will help to keep the home stable and supported, permanently.

Bowing Walls

Bowing walls are commonly seen on all types of homes, both old and new. The soil surrounding your home will expand and swell whenever it absorbs moisture after a heavy rain fall. This will put a lot of pressure on your basement walls, and this pressure is known as hydrostatic pressure. The wall(s) will start to lean into the basement. This problem can be taken care of with the use of wall anchors. Installation for the anchors involves it being installed deep within the earth in stable soils. A special plate will be installed inside of the home on the effected wall. The two are connected with a steel rod, which can be tightened over time to provide the necessary lateral pressure needed to support the wall and push it back into place.

Wall Cracks

Whenever you see cracks in your foundation walls, it may simply be caused from the natural curing process of concrete. However, the problem may also indicate a more severe underlying structural problem. During a consultation with our team of experts, your home's foundation will be carefully inspected so we can figure out what's causing the issue. The wall cracks will be filled and sealed so that they don't let seepage from the soil inside. If the cracks are being caused from settlement or bowing walls, we can also take care of the problem and prevent it from happening in the future by installing piering products and wall anchors.
